La Croix Valmer has been captivating holidaymakers since Roman times and owes its name to the vision of a cross that appeared to Emperor Constantine I during his passage through Provence in the early 4th century. The Romans occupied this area for several hundred years and at Partigon one can see the remains of what, at 3500 m2, is the largest known Roman residence of the French coast.
