La Croix Valmer in the Var 83 South of France, is a seaside town located just off the main D555 cliff road between La Sainte Maxime and Cavalaire. The area is particularly well placed away from the traffic on the D98. In fact there are short cuts to Pampelonne and St Tropez as well as an easy route up to Grimaud and the A8.
On the way to Cavalaire, La Croix Valmer is behind the sea and some of the apartments and villas have exceptional sea views. La Croix Valmer is a peaceful village with some pretty large apartment blocks, but done very nicely. The village is very quaint and the route down through the vineyards to Gigaro La Croix Valmer beaches is splendid.
Activities in La Croix Valmer are horse riding, cycling, tennis, water sports, as well as hiking, and swimming. There is a very beautiful municipal swimming pool here.

The Romans were based in La Croix Valmler for 200 years and we can see the roman remains of villas and even baths.At Partigon one can see the remains of the largest known Roman residence of the French coast. After this it was the French who arrived here in the 19th century from Lyon to create holiday villas and then a village was created.

How to Get Here
Like Cavalaire La Croix Valmer is easy to get to from the A8, and both airports; preference would be to go to Toulon over nice as La Croix Valmer is west of Saint Tropez. Bus from Toulon http://www.provencebeyond.com/travel/bus07.html If you are coming from the A8 it would be preferable to get off the motorway at Le Luc, and go down the D558 through La Garde Freinet and Grimaud. You can come behind la Foux round about where the Azur park is and then bend around direction La Croix Valmer.
To get to Pampelonne take the road past the Polo Club, and hook right past Gassin and the Minuty Vineyards to get to Pampelonne. There is also a road from Gigaro to Escalet.
Beaches in La Croix Valmer
With its seven naturaily sandy beaches, Le Croix Valmer is reputed for the quality of its swimming waters. Le gigaro or gigaro plage is a natural reserve on the waters of La Croix Valmer and the Mediterranean. At the end of Gigaro beach there is an undeveloped French government owned reserve that covers the coastline via Cap Lardier to L'Escalet, a distance of some 5kms.
There are several walks through this reserve and several secluded beaches. Gigaro is said to be good for kite surfing and wind surfing. The Plage de Debarquement is more developed with some lovely beach restaurants and beach bars.
