Cavalaire in the Var 83, is a seaside town located on the D555 cliff road between La Croix Valmer and Le Lavandou. It is in fact on the edge of the Var. Cavalaire is famous for its modern port, and funky restaranats and bars that stay open late into the night for the younger generation. Cavalaire is geared up for the tourist season with very popular campsites, hotels, and restaurants during summer months.
Cavalaire has a young mayor (marie) and that is a good thing for visitors in their holiday rentals as well as those who have bought in Cavalaire. Scuba Diving, Sailing, Deep Sea Fishing, water skiing, tennis and of course cycling are all sports available in Cavalaire. There is even a casino in Cavalaire.
History
Cavalaire was visited by the Romans during the Gallo Roman Empire. Excavations have found holiday villas which obviously belonged to the aristocracy of the Roman legions..Cavalaire’s beach was also an important location for the Allied landings, when the 3rd division of the American infantry disembarked here on August 15th 1944.

How to Get Here
Cavalaire is good to get to by car: the motorways provide a fast and safe option. St Tropez is located near the A8, which links Marseille to Nice. From Marseille, exit at the Cannet des Maures junction and follow the D558 for about 40kms to the town. From Nice, exit A8 at the Le Muy junction and take the D25 to St Tropez, again a distance of about 40kms. Cavalaire is direction Toulon from Cogolin, or can be reached by the beach road D559.
There is a bus to the Hyeres airport which is the closest airport. Trains are at Saint Raphael or Les Arcs.
Beaches
Cavalaire is home to a beautiful three kilometer curved sandy beach. The beach is eclipsed only by the Pradel mountains behind it. Some of the most beautiful beaches are found on two protected islands off the coast of Cavalaire and some cavalaire villas have a spectacular view over the sea to Porquerolles and Port Cross.
From this beach there is a coastal trail to Cap Camarat through a nature reserve.
